LR Football Fights Hard But Falls To Catawba, 24-20, In The Regular Season Finale

Salisbury, N.C. – The Catawba Football Team (9-2, 5-2) won its fourth straight game after holding off Lenoir-Rhyne (3-7, 2-5), 24-20, Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale in a South Atlantic Conference game at Shuford Stadium.

STATS OF THE GAME:
•    Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore running back Nelson Brown (Salisbury, Md.) led the way with a team-high 104 yards and a touchdown to cross over the 1,000-yard mark for the season.  Brown finished with 1,071 yards and 11 total touchdowns on the year.
•    Lenoir-Rhyne freshman running back Xzavion Huff (Maiden, N.C.) returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter, the first since October 29, 2016, by sophomore Sherrod Williams (Edison, Ga.):  91 yards versus Newberry.
•    Catawba totaled 233 yards on the ground including 142 yards and two touchdowns from Kenyatta Greene (Edgewater Park, N.J.).  The Indians held a 392-229 edge in total yards.
•    Williams finished with a game-high 10 tackles and the Bears' defense registered three sacks on the day.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    Brown is the first 1,000-yard back from Lenoir-Rhyne since Kristaan Ivory (1,066 yards) in 2015.  Brown is the 14th player in school history to cross the 1,000-yard mark on the season for the Bears.
•    Catawba leads the all-time series with Lenoir-Rhyne, 49-44-4, and has won three straight over the Bears.
•    Catawba is currently sixth in the latest Super Region No. 2 Poll and will wait and see if it earns a berth to the playoffs (the top seven teams from each of the four regions advance).

UP NEXT:
Lenoir-Rhyne's season comes to an end while Catawba will find out Sunday night if it advances to the national postseason tournament.
