Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Soccer Overwhelms Mount Olive, 3-0, To Remain Unbeaten

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team (3-0), ranked No. 21 in NCAA Division II, continued its hot start to the year with a 3-0 victory over Mount Olive (0-2) in a regional match Wednesday night at a very wet Moretz Sports – Athletic Complex.

Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore midfielder Abigael McGarel (Morristown, Tenn.) scored twice including the match-winner just 15:24 into the contest after finishing off a corner kick from junior midfielder Abbie Brown (Leeds, ENGLAND).  McGarel leads the team with three goals so far on the year while Brown registered her second game-winning score off her own corner kick.

McGarel gave the Bears a 2-0 advantage with a penalty kick in the 49th minute before sophomore midfielder Aqsa Mushtaq (Bradford, ENGLAND) rounded out the scoring at the 67:41 mark with a header into back of the net.

Lenoir-Rhyne was dominant throughout – holding a 33-1 edge in shots taken – and has outscored its opponents by a 10-0 margin so far on the year.

Senior goalkeeper Alayna Morris (Westminster, Md.) was credited with the victory for the Bears while the Trojans' Abigail Ross (Nashville, N.C.) suffered the loss despite making nine saves on the evening.

Lenoir-Rhyne hits the road to take on Belmont Abbey on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., in Belmont, N.C., while Mount Olive hosts Francis Marion next Wednesday beginning at 7:00 p.m.
