LR Men’s Basketball Falls To Fifth-Ranked Queens, 73-61, In The 2018 SAC Quarterfinals

Charlotte, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball Team (11-16) suffered a 73-61 loss to Queens (27-2) Wednesday evening in the Quarterfinals of the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Championship at Curry Arena.  The Bears are seeded seventh while the Royals came into the game as the second seed.  Queens is also ranked No. 5 in NCAA Division II.

STATS OF THE GAME:
•    Lenoir-Rhyne was led by junior guard Cory Thomas (Louisville, Ky.) with a game-high 22 points and junior guard Djibril Diallo (Conakry, GUINEA) added 13 points but the Royals defeated the Bears for the second time in a week and the third time this season.
•    Queens had four players in double figures – led by Todd Withers (Greensboro, N.C.) and Mike Davis (Brunswick, Ga.) with 18 points – and held a 35-24 edge in rebounding and hit 12 treys in the victory.
•    Lenoir-Rhyne battles Queens to a 55-all tie with 8:11 remaining in the contest but the Royals took over from there by reeling off the next 11 points.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    Lenoir-Rhyne senior guard Reed Lucas (Greensboro, N.C.) finished his collegiate career with 218 treys and 1,092 points (ranking 42nd on the all-time program list).
•    Diallo finished the season ranking first on the team in points scored (15.1), assists (111) and free throw percentage (.793).

UP NEXT:
Queens next competes in the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Championship Semifinals on Saturday, March 3, at the Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C.  In the latest NCAA Division II Southeast Regional rankings, the Royals are ranked second.
