COACHES TAKE

"The ladies were tough today," said Head Coach Tom Rees. "They were willing to commit to their game plan in the big moments and it paid off. We won three 3 set matches and came through in another match while cramping. It was an excellent day and I couldn't be more proud of the ladies for the toughness they are continuing to show."

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bears took the doubles point and the early momentum. Iulia Ponomareva and Lucy Whelan took a 6-1 victory in the third spot and the duo of Diana Babinets and Gemma Southwick earned a 6-2 win in second doubles to clinch the point. Catawba was able to grab a win in first singles but the point went to LR.

In singles action, Lenoir-Rhyne dominated and won in five of the six spots. Catawba grabbed their first win of the afternoon in second singles but LR would take the final five decisions. Emily Murchland won in fourth singles and Whelan grabbed a win in the sixth spot. Southwick, who was battling cramps, won 6-4, 6-3 in the first line and clinched the victory. Ally Garofoli and Babinets closed out the match with singles wins.
