HICKORY, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Teams opened the season with a 6-1 win over Lees-McRae on Thursday afternoon.
Abigael McGarel scored a pair of goals for LR who held a dominant 35-3 advantage in shots.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
• McGarel entered the match with nine career goals but reached double digits with her pair of scores this evening. Her first strike came on a PK in the 32nd minute which was the game-winner. Her second tally came off an assist by
Madi Kyle in the second half.
• The trio of
Hannah Van Eerden, Kyle, and
Allie Zueger each finished the match with a goal and an assist. For Zueger, it was the first of her LR career and
Ria Acton also scored her first career goal.
•
Aqsa Mushtaq finished with eight shots and four shots on goal and Zueger also had eight shots, with five coming on frame.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
• This is the six straight victory for LR against Lees-McRae which dates back to Sep. 13, 2003.
• The Bears went 1-2 against Conference Carolinas foes a season ago.
• This marks the second straight season LR opened against Lees-McRae, defeating the Bobcats 1-0 to start 2018.
