Bears Explode for 37 First Quarter Points and Cruise Past St. Augustine's, 68-7

HICKORY, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Football Team erupted for 37 first quarter points in a 68-7 thumping of St. Augustine's to open the 100th season of LR Football on Saturday evening. 15 different players ran the ball for the Bears who finished with 256 yards on the ground and three touchdowns.

STATS OF THE GAME:
•   Kyle Dugger got the scoring started with a 30-yard pick-six on St. Augustine's first offensive possession. On third and seven, SAU QB Jalen Jones fired over the middle but his WR bobbled the pass and Dugger did the rest. The senior would add another INT in the second quarter - his tenth career pick - and finished the evening with 93 return yards. 
•   QB Grayson Willingham went 6-for-10 with three touchdowns, including a pair of strikes in the first quarter. Willingham hit Jaquay Mitchell for a seven-yarder and connected with Dareke Young on a 25-yard pass. 
 •   The special teams recorded a safety on a kickoff and  recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown. 
•    Mitchell finished with a pair of touchdowns and had five rushes for 73 yards, while adding two catches for 17 yards. 
•    Four different players caught a TD pass on the night. Will Neal and Demarius Hampton found paydirt with Neal getting in the end zone for the first time in his career. 
•    Jaquan Artis was a monster on the defensive side of the ball, registering nine tackles, four tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Donte Young added eight tackles and a forced fumble, while Richburg Canty had 1.5 sacks. 
•    St. Augustine's finished with 35 rushing attempts for -3 yards and only had 107 yards of total offense. 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
•    Despite this being the 100th year of LR Football, tonight was the first-ever meeting between the Bears and St. Augustine's. 
•    Lenoir-Rhyne has now won eight straight home games. The longest home winning streak in program history sits at 14 games.   
•    The Bears nearly broke the record for most points in a game which has stood since LR scored 79 in 1952 against Bridgewater. 

UP NEXT:
LR hits the road for the first time this season when they travel to Virginia Union on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
