HICKORY, N.C. - Needing a win or a tie to earn a top four seed and a home game in the first round of the SAC Tournament, the Lenoir-Rhyne women's soccer team scored three first half goals en route to a 3-2 win over rival Carson-Newman in the regular season finale. The Bears have secured the 3-seed in the upcoming SAC Tournament, and will take on 6-seed Limestone at the Moretz Sports Complex on Saturday evening in the SAC Tournament quarterfinals.
Kara Gavaghan scored her first two goals of the season including the game-winning goal to lead LR to victory tonight.Â
"The game plan all week was to get after it from an attacking standpoint," said head coach
Gary Higgins. "All three goals we scored tonight were scrappy, and they weren't really pretty, and that's what you have to do when you're in a little bit of a slump like we were losing two games in a row. The girls fought so hard all game long, but especially that first half."
