Bears Fall at Catawba 91-80

HICKORY, N.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball lost its third game over its past four contests in a 91-80 defeat at Catawba on Monday night. Darius Simmons and R.J. Gunn combined for 46 points but the Bears trailed for the last 28:27 of the contest.

STATS AND INFO:
- Lenoir-Rhyne came in shooting just 28 percent from long range over its last five games and went just 5-of-23 (21.7 percent) in this one
- Catawba had been allowing opponents to shoot 43.0 percent from long range coming into the game
- The Bears entered shooting 78 percent as a team from the free throw line but went just 9-of-20 
- Catawba's Traylynn Spencer had just 17 points in his first eight games this season but had 16 points on 6-of-7 (4-of-5 from three) shooting

- Spencer had all 16 of his points in the first half and Marcus Burwell added seven for Catawba

SECOND HALF:
- The Bears cut the lead to five points on three occasions in the second half but couldn't pull any closer
- Simmons had 15 and Gunn had 14 in the final 20 minutes with Gunn adding seven boards
- Catawba shot 15-of-28 in the second half, good for a 53.6 percent clip and outrebounded LR 22-16

ABOUT THE BEARS:
-  Gunn added a season-high eight boards
- Cooper Fowler entered the game without a point scored outside of Shuford Gym but scored seven and had two rebounds and a block
Davion Bradford, the league's leader in field goal percentage, went 3-of-5 and is now 21-of-26 over his past six games

NOTABLE INDIANS:
- Burwell had a team-high 23 points and had nine boards and four assists
- Larry McLeod had 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting
- Catawba celebrated Senior Night prior to tonights tipoff
