NEWBERRY, S.C. – Sean White hit
Kelin Parsons for a game-winning touchdown in double overtime that led the Lenoir-Rhyne Football Team to a victory at Newberry in LR's season opener. The Bears have now won 18 straight games against South Atlantic Conference opponents.

STATS OF THE GAME:
• The Bears started off the scoring with a blocked punt on Newberry's first drive.
Jordan Holmes broke through to block the punt and
Alvin James returned it for 20 yards for a touchdown on his first career touch.
• On the ensuing extra point, senior kicker
Chase Allbaugh became the program's all-time leader in career points by a kicker. Allbaugh surpassed Colin Corpe with his 265
th career point.
• The Bears were held without a first down until freshman RB
Dwayne McGee started moving the chains on his own. Three long runs got the LR offense moving.
• Each team had seven first downs in the first half but Newberry dominated time of possession, holding the ball for 19:58.
• Percy King scored the second non-offensive touchdown of the contest as he returned an interception 10 yards to put LR up 17-14. However, the Wolves evened the game at 17 with just over one minute left.
• Lenoir-Rhyne had a chance to win the game in regulation but a 42-yard field goal was blocked as time expired.
• In the first OT, the Bears held Newberry to a short field goal but didn't convert a first down on offense and Allbaugh calmly sank a 33-yarder to send the game to a second OT.
• The second OT was just two plays before White hit Parsons for the game-winner.
• Defensively, LR held Newberry to three straight incompletions before intercepting a Hail Mary on the final play of the game.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
• On the second play of the game,
Amari Houston recorded a sack to extend Lenoir-Rhyne's streak of consecutive games with at least one sack to 40.
• Lenoir-Rhyne started double-digit newcomers including true freshman QB
Sean White.
• For the second consecutive trip into Newberry, Lenoir-Rhyne won with a freshman QB making his first career start. Back in 2018,
Gunnar Anderson led the Bears to a 34-21 win at Setzler Field.
• McGee finished with 30 carries for 160 yards, the 165
th all-time 100-yard rushing game for LR in the NCAA era.
• Ryan Carter had a team-high five grabs for 51 yards
.
• Jon Ross Maye finished with a game-high 14 tackles and
Amari Houston added nine and also split a sack with King.
