Football Overpowers Wingate 44-21

WINGATE, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Football Team dominated Wingate in a 44-21 victory on Friday night. The Bears held Wingate to -43 rushing yards on the game and closed out the regular season undefeated. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STATS OF THE GAME:
•  Lenoir-Rhyne held Wingate to zero first downs in the first half and -32 total yards as they built a 30-0 lead going into the break.
•  After a pair of Chase Allbaugh field goals to open the scoring, a strip sack by Quentin Hayes was scooped by Preston Joseph and returned five yards for the first touchdown of the game. 
 • Grayson Willingham hit Deondre Lester for a 34-yard touchdown on the Bears next possession and then scrambled for a 9-yard TD to put LR up 27.
•   After a Chris Brown interception and return, Allbaugh buried his third field goal of the half as time expired to send LR into the break up 30.
•  Dareke Young scored his first TD of the season and Dwayne McGee found the end zone for the Bears in the second half. 
•   Willingham went 16-for-30 for 288 yards and a pair of touchdowns and McGee finished with 94 yards on 30 carries.
•   Lester had four catches for 77 yards and Ryan Carter went for 72 yards on four grabs.
•   Lenoir-Rhyne had five sacks and two interceptions and recovered a pair of fumbles on the game.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
•   With another sack today, Lenoir-Rhyne extends its streak with at least one sack to 42 straight games.
•  Lenoir-Rhyne has won four straight head-to-head against Wingate and owns a 23-13 lead in the all-time series.
•   LR is 11-7 in games at Wingate.  
•  The Bears have now won 20 straight games against South Atlantic Conference opponents.
