Bears Come From Behind to Take Down Limestone in SAC Opener

HICKORY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne women's soccer team gave up the lead to Limestone early in the second half. Then, they stormed back to score two goals within two minutes to take the lead back for good in a 3-2 win over No. 21 Limestone in the SAC Conference Opener. Ria Acton scored two goals, including the game-winner, and assisted on the third goal to pace the Bears offensively.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Acton has scored four goals in her past two games. She tied for the SAC lead in goals in the spring (7), with four game-winning goals. She scored the game-winning goal tonight. 
  • Each goalkeeper had six saves, with Charlotte Warner earning the win in net for the Bears.
  • The shots were also very even, with LR narrowly out-shooting Limestone 18-15, and 9-8 in shots on goal.
  • Tabea Schutt scored both the Limestone goals, numbers two and three on the season for her.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Acton's first goal of the game came off a penalty kick, the second game in a row she's scored from a PK. She is now 6-6 on PKs in her career.
  • Acton nearly scored all three goals in the game.
  • Charlotte Warner got the start in goal with Grayson Cameron unavailable. Warner missed the 2020-21 season due to injury, but started all 19 games in net for the Bears in 2019 as a redshirt freshman.
  • This was the third straight win in the conference opener for LR. The last time they didn't win their conference opener was in 2018 against Carson-Newman.
UP NEXT: The Bears step out of conference play again as they travel to North Georgia on Wednesday for a 5 PM kick.
