HICKORY, N.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne women's tennis continued its hot streak today at home, defeating Division I North Carolina A&T 5-2 today in Hickory. The Bears haven't lost a match as a team in over a month, and are playing their best tennis of the year as conference play kicks off this week.
In the doubles round,
Alicia Wahlberg and
Diana Babinets took home the victory at No. 2, 6-2.
Evgeniya Pugina and
Sandy Mitsou did not have an opponent at No. 3, so they won by forfeit.
In singles, taking wins for the Bears was
Gemma Southwick at No. 1 (7-5, 6-3), Wahlberg at No. 3 (6-1, 6-2), Babinets at No. 5 (6-2, 6-0), and Mitsou at No. 6 (forfeit).
LR is in action next on Friday when they host Newberry in SAC play. This should be a matchup of two of the top teams in the SAC, and the Wolves edged the Bears 4-1 with several close matches at the City of Florence Invite in early February. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Hickory YMCA.
