YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Tennis Team started its 2023-24 season with a statement 4-3 victory over Young Harris.
Starting at doubles, the No. 1 doubles team of
Evgeniya Pugina and Runa Müderrisoglu had a commanding 6-1 victory to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.
LR coasted its way to the doubles point after
Alicia Wahlberg and
Nellie Wahlberg won at No. 2 doubles with a 6-3 result. Then shortly after, a pair of sophomores,
Jessica Fuchs and
Alexa Allison secured the No. 3 match with a 6-4 final.
Moving into singles, Pugina extended the Bears lead to 2-0 with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 1 singles match.
The Wahlberg sisters went on to clinch the match for the Bears after both Alicia and Nellie recorded straight-set victories. The first one to finish was Nellie, who tallied a 6-2, 6-2 result at the No. 4 line while Alicia took the No. 2 singles match in a 6-1, 6-3 score line.
The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Tennis Team will return to the court on Saturday, Oct. 21 for their fall finale against Shaw in Raleigh, N.C.
