HICKORY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Tennis Team had their three-game winning streak snapped with a 4-2 defeat against No. 33 Catawba.
Most of the singles matches on Thursday provided some thrilling outcomes, including Natalie Lutz who took back-to-back 7-6 set victories to pull out the No. 4 singles match.
Evgeniya Pugina was able to avoid a nail-biting match – but in a good way, as the sophomore dominated at No. 1 singles to take the 6-1, 6-2 win.
Unfortunately for the Bears, most of the three-set decisions went in the way of the Indians. At No. 3 singles, Lucy Whelan was able to square the match up with a 6-0 second set win, but eventually was on the wrong side of a 6-4 third set.
At No. 6 singles, Evelin Menyhart came out strong in her match with a 6-3 first set victory, but the senior unraveled and lost the final two sets by a 6-2, 6-1 score.
At the beginning of the match, the duo of Alicia Wahlberg and Whelan at No. 1 doubles were able to take a 7-5 victory. However, the Indians were able to take the other two doubles matches to secure the doubles point.
The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Tennis Team will return to the YMCA of Catawba Valley for one last time in the regular season against Wingate on Wednesday, April 12 at 2:00 p.m.
