Two second half goals help Bears overcome Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, TN.-- After the Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer saw themselves go down 1-0 early,  Ava Hartman and Evan O'Leary each scored goals in the second half to take down Tusculum 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. The win sets up a showdown with #21 Catawba on Wednesday with the regular season SAC title on the line.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • The Pioneers scored first in this one with a goal from Brynn Strokes in the 13th minute.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne got the equalizer in the 47th off a double assist from O'Leary and Emerson Talley as Ava Hartman scored her 7th goal of the season. 
  • O'Leary notched her 5th career game-winning goal in the 77th minute off a free kick. 
  • Bears had 19 shots on goal in this one, with Tusculum keeper Noemie Tatrou making 17 saves.
  • Riley Miller made a pair of saves in goal for the Bears. 
  • Lenoir-Rhyne out shot the Pioneers 26-6 in the contest.
  • O'Learly led with 11 shots.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Bears have won their last eight games against the Pioneers.
  • Tusculum's goal was their first against the Bears since 2021.
  • O'Leary's assist was her 11th of the season. The eleven assists is good for 5th most in a single season in LR history.
  • O'Leary has points in 13 of 15 games this season. 
  • Bears joined Catawba today with the only teams in the SAC with 10 wins on the season. 
UP NEXT: It all comes down to this Wednesday night, as the Bears will host #21 Catawba with the SAC regular season title on the line. The Bears and Catawba are tied with 26 points with Wingate four points behind. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
