HICKORY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Tennis Team remains perfect at home with a 4-3 victory over Limestone.Â
At the start of the match, the Bears took two of the three doubles matches to earn the first point of the day. Â
First, at No. 2 doubles, Alicia Wahlberg and Nellie Wahlberg cruised their way to a 6-2 victory to win their fifth-straight match together. Then, at the No. 3 line, Dawson Clifford and Alexa Allison prevailed in a 6-4 outcome, good enough to give LR the 1-0 advantage.Â
After picking up the doubles victory, Nellie Wahlberg got the Bears off on the right note with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 result at the No. 4 singles line. Â
Another freshman who garnered a singles victory was Runa Muderrisoglu, who took a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles. With the win, the Duzce, Turkey native has now won six-straight singles matches.Â
While capturing the 3-1 lead, the Saints stormed right back into the mix by winning three-set matches at No. 2 and No. 5 singles.Â
However, with her back against the wall, Alicia Wahlberg came in the clutch as she pulled off a come-from-behind victory at No. 3 singles. Â
After dropping the first set, 3-6, the senior rolled in the second set with a 6-0 result. Then in the critical third set, the Stockholm, Sweden native clinched the match for the Bears with a 6-3 frame.Â
UP NEXT: The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Team will be back on the road on Friday, March 15 as the Bears will face off against the Lees-McRae Bobcats. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in Banner Elk, N.C.Â
