No. 32 Women’s Tennis Sweeps Emory & Henry, 7-0

BRISTOL, Tenn. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Tennis Team got back to its winning ways as the Bears controlled their match over Emory & Henry with a 7-0 victory.

At the start of the match, LR cruised its way to the first point of the day thanks to a sweep in doubles. The No. 3 line of Dawson Clifford and Alexa Allison clinched the first win of the day with a 6-1 outcome, while the No. 2 duo of Nellie Wahlberg and Alicia Wahlberg notched a 6-2 result.

To finish out doubles, the No. 1 pair of Claudia Orsini and Runa Muderrisoglu had on their hands full as their match went to a tiebreaker. Fortunately for the Bears, the two posted a 7-4 victory in the tiebreak to secure all three doubles matches for LR.

Transitioning to singles, Jessica Fuchs won her third match of the season with a clean sweep at the No. 6 line. The sophomore from Winston-Salem, N.C. dominated her opponent to secure the 6-0, 6-0 result.

At the No. 4 line, Nellie Wahlberg produced another straight-set victory with a 6-2, 6-0 result. The freshman from Stockholm, Sweden now has a 12-2 record on the season with nine of the wins coming from the fourth spot of the order.

Clinching the match for the Bears was Alica Wahlberg, who manufactured a straight-set win at the No. 2 spot in the lineup. The senior from Stockholm, Sweden, who only played two matches prior to today at the second spot of the lineup, had a solid 6-2, 6-2 win.

Although a victory was already in the books for the Bears, that did not slow them down as Orsini picked up a 6-2, 6-2 result at the No. 3 line. The sophomore from Soisy-sous-Montmorency, France picked up her second win of the season at the third line of the order.

At the No. 5 spot of the lineup, Allison and her opposition played in a pro-set style match, which the Bears freshman was able to control with an 8-2 result. The Conover, N.C. native snapped her three-match losing streak with her eighth win of the season.

Closing out the afternoon for the Bears was Muderrisoglu, who had a come-from-behind three-set victory. After dropping the first set, 6-3, the freshman rebounded with a 6-1 second-set victory to force a decisive third set. The Duzce, Turkey native was able to prevail with a 10-4 result in the third-set tiebreak to secure the perfect day for the Bears.
