Bears hold on for first win at Anderson since 2017

Anderson, S.C. - For the first time since 2017, The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball team won at Anderson as the Bears snapped the Trojans five game winning streak. Lenoir-Rhyne went 5-6 from the free throw line late to hold on for a 78-74 victory. Hantz Louis-Juene led the Bears with 26 points on the night, going 10-13 shooting from the floor.

Conrad Luczynski tied a season high with 14 rebounds and notched his second double-double of the season while Sam Martin (13 points), Ziare Wells (12 points) and Julian Dozier (10 points) joined Louis-Juene and Lucynski in double digits.

STORY OF THE GAME
  • LR jumped out and scored the game's first five points as the Bears led 8-4 at the first media timeout. 
  • Anderson took their first lead at 19-18 before the Bears jumped back out in front and opened a 33-25 lead. 
  • The Trojans then responded with a 12-2 run and went up 37-34,d however Louis-Jeune sent the game to halftime tied with a three point with :32 second left in the half.
  • Louis-Jeune and the Trojans's Dallas Jones each had twelve points in the first half to lead each team. 
  • Bears opened their biggest lead of the game at 60-49 with 8:48 left. 
  • Anderson cut the lead to 69-66 with 3:12 left but Sam Martin had a key offensive rebound and put back to extend the lead back to five. 
  • With 20.3 seconds left, Anderson had a possession to the tie the game but a key turnover by the Trojans give the ball back to the Bears. 
  • Louis-Jeune made that turnover costly with a layup to extend the lead to 76-71.
  • Anderson then came down and hit a long three pointer to cut the lead to 76-74 with just 6.6 seconds left. 
  • However Dozier iced the game with back-to-back free throws as the Bears held on for a 78-74 win. 
STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Despite Dozier hitting the last two free throws, the Bears only shot 64% from the charity stripe. However, the Bears went to the free throw line 25 times compared to just 11 for the Trojans. 
  • Both teams had 38 rebounds in the contest as LR was led by 14 from Luczynski and seven from Martin. 
  • Anderson was just 7-35 from beyond the arc while the Bears went 4-11. 
  • Dozier had five assists for the Bears while Luczynski added three. 
  • For the eight time this season, The Bears shot at least 50% from the floor as LR was 29-58 from the field.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Bears snapped a two game losing streak to Anderson.
  • They also snapped a streak of six straight losses at Abney Athletic Center. 
  • Bears were ranked #24 in this week's NABC poll. 
  • Lincoln Memorial defeated Tusculum 79-70 tonight so the Bears remain one game out of first in the SAC. The two teams meet again one month from today. 
  • LR will return home for the first time in two weeks on Saturday as LR will have a quick two game homestand coming up. 
  • Louis-Jeune had 51 points in the two games this week. 
UP NEXT: The Bears will return to the Shu on Saturday as Emory & Henry comes to Hickory. The Bears defeated the Wasps 97-75 back on November 23rd. Emory & Henry is 4-12 and 2-10 in the SAC after falling in overtime to Mars Hill earlier tonight. The first 150 students in the door on Saturday will get a free Sleuth student section t-shirt, and a wiener dog race will take place at halftime of the men's game. Tip off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
