Anderson gives Lenoir-Rhyne first conference loss of the season

ANDERSON, S.C. --  The Bears dropped their first conference match of the year to the Anderson in a defensive slugfest. The Bears gave the Trojans a lot of offensive pressure, firing off 20 shots, including 11 on goal Despite this the Trojans defense silenced the Bears and earned a hard fought 1-0 victory. The Trojans improve to 5-1-1 on the year and remain undefeated in conference play. 

The Bears will look to bounce back this Saturday as they prepare for another SAC showdown against the Newberry Wolves.

  • The Trojans went up 1-0 in the 6th minute with a goal from Whitley Anderson, assisted by Kylie Swanson and Ansley Douty. 
  • Lenoir-Rhyne earned a total of eight corner kicks, but were unable to convert any due to the Trojans strong defense. 
  • The Bears out-shot the Trojans 20-7 but could not find any answers to the Trojans defense. 
  • Trojan goalie Aliyah Morgan had 11 saves in the game. 
  • Riley Miller had two saves on the night, giving her 27 on the season. 
  • Ava Hartman led the Bears with three shots, two of which were on goal.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • This is the 23rd all-time meeting between the Bears and the Trojans.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne leads the overall series 16-4-3. 
  • This is the first time since 2016 that Anderson came out victorious in this matchup.
UP NEXT: The Bears will return home on Saturday for another SAC showdown against Newberry, who are 5-1-1 on the season. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Hickory.
