Bears put on show in 10-0 win over Mars Hill

Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne women's soccer team put on an offensive showcase on Wednesday night, taking down Mars Hill 10-0. This is the most goals the Bears have scored in a game since they defeated NAIA Columbia (S.C.) 13-0 in 2008, and their most goals against a NCAA DII opponent since a 10-1 defeat of Newberry in 1995. 

 Katie Durham finished the game with four goals, the most for a Bear since Garcelle Alequine picked up four against Coker in 2014. Her 10 total points were just three away from the school record.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Katie Durham opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a goal off the double assist from Ava Hartman and Ingrid Krakhellen. 
  • Hartman joined Durham on the scoresheet with a penalty kick just two minutes later. 
  • Leading just 2-0 at the half, the Bears scored six goals in a 15 minute span to break the game open.
  • Mya Rivera ('49, '55) scored her first two Bear goals.
  • Durham scored two more while Lucia Hidalgo ('61, '70) joined Rivera with a brace.
  • Junior Alexis Cagno scored her third goal of the season in the 78th minute to round things out for the Bears.
  • The Bears out shot the Lions 30-4 and held a 21-1 edge in shots-on-goal. 
  • Mars Hill didn't register a corner kick the entire game, while LR had 12.
  • This was Riley Miller's six shutout of the year, equaling last year's total.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Bears have now won 20 straight games against Mars Hill and haven't allowed a goal since 2022.
  • LR is now at 397 career wins and are three wins away from their 400th career win. 
  • Riley Miller is now three saves away from 100 career saves. 
  • Isabella Zicchinolfi is tied for the SAC lead with six assists.
  • Katie Durham ranks third in points while Durham and Lucia Hidalgo are tied for third in goals.
  • The Bears are now tied with Catawba for the SAC lead.
UP NEXT: The Bears will travel to Carson-Newman on Saturday night. The Eagles are 6-3-2 (2-2-2 SAC) and tied Lincoln Memorial 0-0 tonight. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM from Jefferson City, Tenn.
