Brent Owen honored with Jerry Moore Coach of Influence Award

HICKORY, N.C. - Coaching is much more than basketball, and head men's basketball coach Brent Owen proves that every day. This past week coach Owen was honored with the Jerry Moore Coach of Influence Award, given by the NC Foothills Chapter fo the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).

"Coach Owen has God as his top priority, and how he lives his life and how he coaches is a direct result of that," said Mike Mackie, Lenoir-Rhyne's FCA representative. "He practices integrity, welcomes the opportunity to serve, endeavors to be a good teammate, and strives for excellence in every role of his life. These are the values of FCA, and Coach Owen embodies these values. In his coaching, he understands the importance of developing all three dimensions of a player…heart, mind, and body, and he is intentional in his methods of developing these dimensions in all of his players. Coach Owen is very deserving of the Jerry Moore Coach of Influence Award."

This award honors coaches who have shown leadership and a positive influence in their sports community. It is named after Jerry Moore, the former Appalachian State University Footall coach who had a successful career with multiple national and conference championships. The FCA often honors individuals who have made significant contributions to sports and faith, and the award reflects Moore's legacy within the organization.

Coach Owen lives by the saying "God. Family. Basketball." Whether it be bible studies, team church on Sundays, or going out to local grade schools to for hi-fives in the drop off line, coach Owen makes sure his team is winning both on and off the court.
