Robinson's big day leads Bears to 32-25 win at Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, GA - Khamoni Robinson is a one-man wrecking crew. He was responsible for all four Lenoir-Rhyne touchdowns in a big 32-25 victory at Valdosta State on Saturday. Not to be outdone was the Bears' defense, who accounted for four interceptions in this one.

"I love the way our guys found a way to finish! This one took all three phases of working together, and they got it done." - Head Coach Doug Socha.

STORY OF THE GAME:
  • The Lenoir-Rhyne defense stepped up early, as Brodie Bradburn picked off Valdosta State's Harris Boyd just three plays in the game.
  • Just two plays later Khamoni Robinson ran it in for his first score of the day, putting Lenoir-Rhyne up 7-0 early.
  • On the very next Blazer drive, KJ Whitehead picked off Boyd at the edge of the Lenoir-Rhyne end zone to halt what could have been an early momentum shift for the home side.
  • Valdosta State scored on the ensuing drive, but a missed extra point let Lenoir-Rhyne keep their lead.
  • After a Blazer field goal in the second quarter, Robinson connected with Songa Yates for a 46-yard touchdown, putting the Bears up 14-9.
  • With 2:27 left in the half, Desmond Greene picked off Boyd and ran it back 34 yards to the VSU one to set up the Bears for a quick score.
  • Robinson powered it in to extend LR's lead to 21-9.
  • Valdosta State moved quickly and scored late to make it 21-16 Bears at the break.
  • The Blazers hit a field goal to score the only points in the third quarter.
  • Valdosta State scored on their first drive of the fourth quarter to go up 25-21, but their 2-point conversion attempt failed.
  • Daniel Deneen Jr. hit a field goal on the Bears' ensuing drive to make it a one-point game, and Maddox Aprile made sure Lenoir-Rhyne got the ball back with a 20-yard sack on Valdosta State's next drive.
  • The Bears moved methodically up the field, with Robinson eventually scoring his fourth touchdown of the game on a one-yard rush with 14 seconds left. He ran the 2-point conversion in to make it a seven-point LR lead.
  • Greene sealed the win with an interception on Valdosta's last play of the game.
STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Khamoni Robinson, did it all, going 18-for-29 for 270 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for 12 yards and three scores.

  • Songa Yates is just one touchdown away from tying Kelin Parsins, Dareke Young, and Scott Walker for the eighth most receiving touchdowns in program history.
  • Daniel Deneen Jr. has 24 touchbacks on 25 kickoff attempts and has yet to miss a PAT this season.
  • This was the first time Lenoir-Rhyne picked off a quarterback four times since they intercepted Wingate's Robbie Nallenweg four times in 2012.
Lenoir-Rhyne will be back between the bricks next week when they play host to Anderson on Saturday. Last year the Bears walked off the Trojans to clinch their spot in the NCAA Division II playoffs. Anderson is currently 4-2 (2-2 SAC) on the year and took down UVA Wise 50-7 earlier tonight. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
