HICKORY, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer team used a late goal from
Mya Rivera in the 83th minute to break a 2-2 tie to gave them a key 3-2 SAC victory over visiting Tusculum. Today doubled as senior day for the Bears as they honored their seven seniors.
Ava Hartman opened the scoring for the Bears as
Katie Durham added a goal and a pair of assists to help the Bears pull out the victory.
The goal gives the Bears 22 points in the SAC standings which is tied with Catawba. Catawba plays Newberry later tonight before the Catawba and the Bears face off on Wednesday evening in Salisbury. The Bears will have at chance to at least share the regular season title with a victory over the Indians.

- The Bears got on the board in the 19th minute as Nicole Auger crossed the ball to Katie Durham, who found Ava Hartman for the game's first goal.
- The Pioneers made the score even later in the half with Carme Escamilla's first goal of the day.
- Halftime adjustments paid off the Bears as Durham found the back of the net in the first minute in the second half.
- For the second time on Saturday, Tusculum found an equalizer and again it came from the foot of Escamilla in the 80th minute.
- Mya Rivera then came up clutch with her first game-winning goal in the 83rd minute.
- Bears outshot the Pioneers 23-7 as the Tusculum goal keepers made ten saves on the day.
- Riley Miller made three saves in net for the Bears.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- The win is the Bears's ninth straight against the Pioneers.
- The victory is also the program's 399th career victory.
- Excluding the abbreviated covid season, The Bears have reached double digit wins for the 16th straight season.
- On Senior Day, the senior class moved their record to 51-11-14 over the last four years.
- Durham is all over the SAC stats leader board as the sophomore is third in goals and points and second in the SAC in assists.
- Ava Hartman notched her 13th career goal today.
UP NEXT: The Bears will conclude the regular season with a big game against No. 3 Catawba on the road on Wednesday night at 5:00 PM. Catawba (7-0-2 SAC) tied Newberry 0-0 today, which makes the winner of next week's game the SAC Regular Season Champion. Due to Catawba having 23 points to Lenoir-Rhyne's 22, a tie gives Catawba the championship.
