Bears get key road victory at Columbus State

COLUMBUS, GA --  Lenoir-Rhyne won it's fourth straight game on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Columbus State 2-1 on the road. Lucia Hidalgo produced her third goal of the season and Savannah Hughes scored her first career goal to help the Bears nab the win.

Riley Miller made six saves in net as Columbus State out shot Lenoir-Rhyne 20-5 (7-5 shots-on-goal).

  • Lucia Hidalgo opened the scoring for LR off a direct free kick goal just outside the box in the second minute.
  • The Bears continued their relentless attack with back-to-back scoring chances by Nicole Auger in the fifth minute.
  • Columbus State out shot Lenoir-Rhyne 11-3 (4-3 SOG) in the first half.
  • Heidi Harris made a sprawling save in the opening minutes of the second half on a shot from Auger.
  • Columbus State nearly scored in the 57th minute, hitting the crossbar.
  • Savannah Hughes extended the lead for Lenoir-Rhyne with a header off a corner kick in the 66th minute. 
  • Shania Wegesend got the Columbus State on the board with her third goal of the season in the 67th minute.

  • This is the 11th all-time meeting between the Bears and Cougars.
  • Columbus State now leads the all-time series 4-3-4.
  • This marks the first win for Lenoir-Rhyne at Columbus State since 2011.
