Strong second half propels Bears to win over Wise

HICKORY, N.C. - Being down 45-36 at the break did not faze the Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Basketball team. The Bears shot 54% in the second half and out scored UVA Wise by 24 in the final twenty minutes to come back and defeat the Cavaliers 95-80 on Saturday afternoon inside the Shu. 

Tyler Burraston played 39 minutes en route to a season high 24 points as the senior drilled six three-pointers on the night. Blessin Kimble had his first Lenoir-Rhyne double-double, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Julian Dozier (16), Akili Evans (15), and Junior Hodnett (13) also scored in double figures for the Bears.

STORY OF THE GAME:
  • Junior Hodnett hit two threes early to keep the Bears in it. 
  • Conrad Luczynski hit his first three of the year at the 9:30 mark of the first half to ignite the crowd.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne led 34-32 before UVA Wise closed the half on a 13-2 run to take a 45-36 lead into the locker room.
  • The Cavaliers led by as many as 11 in the second half before a Tyler Burraston three put Lenoir-Rhyne up 58-56 six minutes in.
  • Leading 67-64 the Bears blew open the game with a 17-2 run, going 6-6 from the field and 3-3 from three during that stretch.
  • Burraston capped off his incredible game with a three with 20 seconds left.
STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Five players finished in double figures, led by Burraston's 24. 
  • Julian Dozier finished with a season high 16 points to go along with six assists and three steals.
  • Blessin Kimble finished with his first Lenoir-Rhyne double-double, tallying 15 points and 10 boards.
  • The Bears had just 11 turnovers today, tied for their second lowest all season.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne was 33-74 (44.6%) from the field and 11-30 (36.7%) from three.
  • UVA Wise went 31-63 (49.2%) from the field and 5-18 (27.8%) from three.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • The home team has now won six in a row in this series. 
  • Tyler Burraston now has 74 threes on the year, already sixth most in a single season in program history. 
  • Kimble had ten rebounds in both games against the Cavs this season. 
  • Bears are still alone in second place in the SAC, three games behind Anderson.
  • Conrad Luczynski had his fifth game of the season with five blocks and leads the SAC with 67 on the year.
  • Luczynski is also just ten blocks away from the single season record for most blocks in program history. 
UP NEXT: Lenoir-Rhyne will head to Newberry to face the Wolves on Wednesday night. The Wolves are on a three-game losing streak after falling 85-72 to Emory & Henry on Saturday. The Bears defeated Newberry inside Shuford Arena 95-69 one month ago. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 from Newberry, South Carolina.
