Rivera brace leads Bears to comeback victory over Francis Marion

HICKORY, N.C. - It was a tale of two halves for the Bears on Wednesday. Lenoir-Rhyne saw themselves go down 2-0 in the first 12 minutes at Francis Marion before rallying to score three second half goals and steal a victory. 

Mya Rivera scored a brace and Kennedy Flowers picked up the game winner with a long shot to the lower left corner in with two minutes remaining in the contest.

STORY OF THE MATCH:
  • Things started off rocky for the Bears as the Patriots scored back-to-back goals in the 11th and 12th minutes to quickly go up 2-0.
  • In a game that was mostly played in the midfield, the Bears didn't register their first shot until the 26th minute.
  • Francis Marion went into the locker room with a two-goal advantage.
  • Mya Rivera turned the momentum to Lenoir-Rhyne's favor early in the second half, heading in a goal off the assist from Isabella Zicchinolfi.
  • The duo of Rivera and Zicchinolfi connected again in the 77th minute to tie things up at two.
  • The Patriots had a golden opportunity go off the post in the 87th minute.
  • In the 88th minute, Kennedy Flowers picked up the ball 25 yards out, turned, and fired it at the bottom left side of the goal where it found the back of the net for the game winner.
STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • FMU out-shot the Bears 10-7 and the teams were tied 4-4 in shots-on-goal.
  • The Bears won nine corner kicks, compared to three for Francis Marion.
