After spending two seasons as a graduate assistant on the coaching staff, Will Hornsby was elevated to the position of Running Back Coach heading into the 2021 season.
Hornsby took over a group that included standout RB Dwayne McGee and Hornsby helped coach McGee to break the single-season rushing yardage mark that had stood since 1994. McGee's 1,669 yards earned him both the SAC Offensive Player of the Year and SAC Freshman of the Year accolades as well as a spot on the All-American team. McGee wasn't the only freshman RB that thrived under Hornsby as Jadus Davis posted a 3-TD game against Barton and finished the year with 465 yards rushing, five touchdowns and a 5.6 yards per carry average. As a team, LR ran for 2,618 yards which ranked in the top 10 in the nation and averaged 5.9 yards per carry to go with 31 total rushing touchdowns.
Hornsby has also proved to be vital in the recruiting game and helps with official visits as well as social media graphics and other content. Hornsby helped coached the defensive line earlier in his graduate assistant coaching career with the Bears.
Prior to joining LR, Hornsby was a special teams quality control coach at The Citadel.
Hornsby was a three-year letterman at Dickinson College, where he played offensive and defensive line. Following an injury, he spent the 2016 season as a student assistant coach working with running backs as well as assisting with video of practice. During the summer of 2015, he interned with the Furman staff grading recruiting film and working camps. He came to The Citadel as a recruiting intern in the summer of 2016 with responsibilities in recruiting and camps.
Hornsby earned his bachelor’s degree in policy management from Dickinson in 2017.
