Sean Weddell

Sean Weddell was hired in April of 2024 as the Head Coach of the Men's and Women's Swim programs. 

Weddell comes to Lenoir-Rhyne with eight years of collegiate coaching experience. His most recent position was at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, NC, where he lead the men's and women's swim programs for five seasons. During his time at Lees-McRae, Weddell coached twelve individual conference champions, and numerous All-Conference swimmers. Weddell has experience with designing strength programs that served various athletes, including former Olympians and NCAA All-Americans. 

Before joining Lees-McRae, Weddell established the men's swim program at Limestone University while also serving as the head coach for the women's team. During his two seasons in Gaffney, he guided the first Division II female All-American in the university's history. 

Outside of the pool, the Lees-McRae College men's swim program averaged a 3.3 GPA, and during the fall 2021 semester the women's program achieved a team GPA of 3.8, the highest among Division II swimming programs. 

Weddell graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in Organization Communications. He was apart of the swimming team from 1990-1992. Weddell was named an All-American swimmer during two seasons with Indian River Community College during 1988-1990. 

Weddell currently resides in Hickory, NC with his wife Melissa.
