Gil “Coach G” Briscoe is entering his second season as the throws coach for Lenoir-Rhyne.
Briscoe comes to Lenoir-Rhyne after serving as the Assistant Track and Field Coach for two years at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa. In his two years with the Titans, Briscoe led both men and women to several Iowa Central Top 10 all-time listings and four Region 11 championships. He coached five national qualifiers and three All-Americans.
Prior to Iowa Central, Briscoe served as the head track and field coach for one year at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio. Briscoe’s team had six indoor regional champions and five outdoor regional champions during that lone season. Cuyahoga won the NJCAA Region 12 Indoor Championship and two athletes were named CSC Academic All-Americans.
Briscoe coached the throwing events for 13 seasons at Cuyahoga Community College, accumulating 17 national qualifiers for the women and six NJCAA All-Americans. In 2017, Briscoe’s team accumulated the highest grade point average in the nation among all NJCAA women’s track and field programs. During his tenure in Ohio, his teams were consistently ranked among the top-10 in the nation academically.
Coach Briscoe has coached his women’s throwers to 12 individual Region 12 Championships, with six qualifying for NJCAA Nationals. His most notable thrower was Rashida Harris, a three-time national runner-up and four-time NJCAA All-American.
Prior to his time at Cuyahoga, Briscoe spent five seasons coaching field events at two different high schools in the Cleveland area.
Briscoe is a native of Cleveland, Ohio.
