The Lincoln Memorial University Volleyball Team (14-2, 6-0) remained undefeated in South Atlantic Conference play with a 3-2 win over Lenoir-Rhyne University (13-7, 1-4) Saturday at Shuford Gymnasium.? The Lady Railsplitters won by scores of 25-13, 28-26, 26-28, 22-25 and 15-8.? L-R, which lost the first two sets, rallied to win games three and four but LMU prevailed in the fifth and final set.
The Bears were paced by sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Cantu (Orlando, Fla.), who tallied a double-double with a team-high 13 kills and 14 digs, and sophomore libero Marrissa Church (Statesville, N.C.) with a career-high 30 digs but it wasn?t enough.? Freshman setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) had another strong outing with 53 assists and 16 digs despite the losing effort.
Lincoln Memorial University, who pushed its winning streak to nine matches, was led by Amanda Horenkamp (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) with 15 kills and 33 digs while Candace Richardson (Houston, Texas) added 10 kills and 27 digs.
Lenoir-Rhyne, who hopes to snap a five-match losing streak, travels to Mars Hill, N.C., to face SAC-foe Mars Hill College on Tuesday at 7 p.m., while Lincoln Memorial returns home to face Catawba on Friday beginning at 6:30 p.m., in a league affair.
