Georgia College Women's Basketball Stuns No. 20 Lenoir-Rhyne, 68-67, In 2009-10 Season Opener

Milledgeville, Ga. ? The No. 20 Lenoir-Rhyne University Women?s Basketball Team (0-1) fell in dramatic fashion, 68-67, to Georgia College and State University (1-0) Monday night at the Centennial Center thanks to a three-pointer in the waning seconds by the Bobcats.

Junior Chimere Jordan (Gray, Ga.) was two-for-three from behind the arc for Georgia College but her most important trey came with no time remaining to give the Bobcats the victory.

Senior point guard Jami Safrit (Hickory, N.C.) led L-R with 15 points and eight rebounds while Shandrea Moore's (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) scored 17 points to lead Georgia College.

Senior guard Amber Holt (Charlotte, N.C.) added 12 points to go along with three boards. L-R held a 48-38 advantage in rebounding for the game.

With neither team holding a vast advantage in shooting from the field or from behind the arc, the only real disparity on the stat sheet came in the paint as the Bobcats blocked 12 shots.

The Bears held a two-point lead with just four seconds remaining. Following a timeout, Georgia College drew up an inbounds play that freed up Jordan for the game-winner.

L-R will head to Mars Hill, N.C., this weekend for the Biltmore Farms/Mars Hill Classic. The Bears will take on Columbus State on Friday at 8:00 p.m., before facing UNC Pembroke on Saturday beginning at 4:00 p.m.
