Queens Men's Basketball Upends Lenoir-Rhyne, 91-84

Charlotte, N.C. ? The Queens University Men?s Basketball Team (2-0) withstood a late rally to defeat Lenoir-Rhyne University (1-2), 91-84, Saturday on the final day of the Tip-Off Classic at Ovens Athletic Center.? The Royals hit three consecutive treys with under three minutes left en route to the victory.

Lenoir-Rhyne, which fell behind 24-8 early in the contest, rallied to take a 78-76 lead on a field goal by junior forward D.J. Blackmon (Albemarle, N.C.) with 2:38 left but Queens responded with three straight three-pointers to seal the deal.

Queens? Reggie Hopkins (Gastonia, N.C.) led all scorers with 27 points while Brandon Nichols (Fayetteville, N.C.) and Andre Lockhart (St. James, Barbados) added 17 and 16 points, respectively.? Hopkins sank 11-of-12 free throws and hit the game-winning trey for the Royals.

Senior guard Marcus Hodges (Wake Forest, N.C.) was Lenoir-Rhyne?s top scorer with 21 points while Blackmon added 18 points, five rebounds and four assists in the losing effort.

Queens was also sparked by 10 three-pointers and a 33-for-41 effort (81 percent) from the charity stripe.

The Tip-Off Classic was a doubleheader between two Carolinas Conference Teams and two South Atlantic Conference members.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Barton on Tuesday beginning at 7:30 p.m.
