No. 20 Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Tops USC Aiken, 59-57, With Late Heroics

Hickory, N.C. ? The No. 20 Lenoir-Rhyne University Women?s Basketball Team (3-1)?knocked off USC Aiken (3-1), 59-57, on Tuesday night at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.? Amber Holt (Charlotte, N.C.) drained a three-pointer with just one-point-four seconds to lift the Bears to their third straight win.

Sophomore guard Cameron Sealey (Gastonia, N.C.)? tallied 16 points to go along with four steals in the victory for L-R.? Junior guard LaCourtney Rann (Charlotte, N.C.) added 11 points while senior center Denise Moore (Newport News, Va.) chipped in 10 points.

USC Aiken was led by freshman Daniela Tarailo (Crown Point, Ind.) who put up 16 points while Lindsay Sundberg (Mansfield, Conn.) knocked down five from beyond the arc to add 15 points for the Pacers despite the loss.?

L-R led by as many as 16 points in the first half but USC Aiken was able to trim that margin to just seven at the half.? After the break the Pacers heated up as they shot nearly 53 percent from the field and 44 percent from?three-point-range in the second frame.?

The seesaw affair saw three lead changes and three ties in the final two minutes of action.

USC Aiken took a one-point lead with just 15.4 seconds left in the game when Deandra Schirmer (Holton, Kan.) hit two free throws.? But Holt took the inbounds pass and drove the length of the floor.? She shook off three Pacer defenders and hit the game-winner falling away from the top of the key.

The Bears will return to action after Thanksgiving as they open up South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday, December 2 against Catawba.? The L-R Women?s Team? will open the doubleheader action with tipoff set for 6:00 p.m.
