Rock Hill, S.C. ? Two members of the Lenoir-Rhyne University Football Team earned 2009 All-South Atlantic Conference honors, league officials announced today.? Marcus Shuford was named to the first team while Harrison Smith garnered second-team accolades.
Shuford, a junior free safety from Newton, N.C., led all Bear tacklers with 76 in 2009 to go along with six pass break-ups, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.? Shuford has earned all-conference accolades for the past two seasons and has now accumulated 230 tackles to go along with nine picks in his career.
Smith, a senior center from Clayton, N.C., anchored an offensive line that averaged 294.3 yards per outing in 2009 (third-best in NCAA Division II).? Smith has started the past three seasons for the Bears and was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III?Team last week.
