USC Aiken Women's Basketball Downs No. 23 Lenoir-Rhyne, 63-51, To Snap Bears' Seven-Game Winning Streak

Aiken, S.C. ? The USC Aiken Women?s Basketball Team (5-4) defeated No. 23 Lenoir-Rhyne University (7-2), 63-51, Thursday evening at the Convocation Center.? With the setback, the Bears saw their seven-game winning streak snapped.

Catherine Cain (Dayton, Ohio) led the Pacers with 17 points and 11 rebounds as USC Aiken avenged an earlier loss to Lenoir-Rhyne.? The Bears defeated the Pacers by a 59-57 score on November 24 in Hickory, N.C.

Sophomore guard Cameron Sealey (Gastonia, N.C.) and senior guard Jami Safrit (Hickory, N.C.) scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, to lead the Bears despite the loss.

Lenoir-Rhyne held a 20-17 advantage on a jump shot by Sealey with 6:26 left in the first half but USC Aiken took control just before the break and an 11-2 run to close the half gave the Pacers a 28-22 lead going into intermission.

USC Aiken began to increase its margin in the second half and a three-point play by Kendra Chandler (Aiken, S.C.) with 2:31 left gave the Pacers their biggest lead of the night at 59-43 that put the contest away.

USC Aiken also limited L-R to just 31 percent shooting (15-of-48) for the game and held a 39-27 advantage in rebounding.? In addition, all 11 players scored on the evening for the Pacers.

Lenoir-Rhyne turned the ball over 18 times and hit just one-of-16 three-point attempts as well.

Lenoir-Rhyne next competes in the Heritage Bank Holiday Classic in Morrow, Ga., beginning with a game against Lander on Tuesday, December 29, at 3:30 p.m.
