Hickory, N.C. ? The Lenoir-Rhyne University Volleyball Team (1-0) opened the 2009 season with a 3-2 win over King College (0-1) Thursday evening by scores of 23-25, 25-22, 25-17, 22-25 and 15-12 at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium in Hickory, N.C.
The Bears were led by freshman outside hitter Katelin Wensley (Advance, N.C.), who tallied a team-high 12 kills, while freshman setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) added a double-double with 48 assists and 10 digs.? L-R sophomore outside Lindsey Cantu (Orlando, Fla.) finished with nine kills and 16 digs in the winning effort.
For King, Morgan Machen (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the way with 13 kills and Katie Fleming (Marietta, Ga.) dished out 38 assists despite the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne hosts the Moretz Sports Invitational on Friday and Saturday and will play Belmont Abbey (4 p.m.) and Coker (7 p.m.) on the first day tomorrow.
