The Lenoir-Rhyne University Volleyball Team (11-1) suffered its first defeat of the year after splitting its two matches on the first day of the Limestone Southeast Crossover Tournament Friday.? L-R fell to Augusta State, 3-1, before rallying to defeat Mount Olive (3-1) in the nightcap.
Augusta State defeated Lenoir-Rhyne by scores of 25-11, 23-25, 25-19 and 25-21 despite 37 assists from freshman setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.) and 17 digs from freshman outside hitter Cayla Crawley (Bryson City, N.C.).
Lutz added 42 assists while Crawley finished with 14 digs in Lenoir-Rhyne?s win over Mount Olive (23-25, 25-21, 25-22 and 25-18).? Bear sophomore outside hitter Brooke Christenbury (Statesville, N.C.) added seven kills and did not make an error in the victory.
Lenoir-Rhyne plays USC Aiken (9:00 a.m.) and Limestone (3:00 p.m.) on the final day of the tournament Saturday.
