Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne University Women’s Soccer Team (7-1) pushed its winning streak to six matches with a 5-0 win over Chowan University (1-7) Saturday afternoon at the Moretz Sports – Athletic Complex. Five different players tallied a goal for L-R and the Bears held a 37-5 advantage in shots taken in the victory.
L-R opened the scoring in the sixth minute when junior forward Rebecca Lin (Northridge, Calif.) scored off a long pass from sophomore midfielder Mariel Mena (Gainesville, Fla.). Lin cut through the defense and streaked down the right side for the score.
The Bears made it 2-0 at the 20:31 mark after sophomore forward Laura Linehan (San Diego, Calif.) tallied her seventh goal of the year with a shot from the left from about 20 yards out.
Lenoir-Rhyne put the contest away just 21 seconds after halftime when sophomore defender Catherine Hauck (Lake Mary, Fla.) received a through pass from freshman midfielder Elizabeth Hawes (Valdese, N.C.) for her first goal of the season.
Sophomore midfielder Kaelia Frazier (Cedar Falls, Iowa) and senior defender Shannon Agnew (Alpharetta, Ga.) rounded out the scoring for L-R in the 50th and 79th minutes, respectively.
Senior Katelyn Burwell (Carthage, N.C.) and freshman Caitlin Scruggs (Torrance, Calif.) combined for the shutout in goal for L-R.
Lenoir-Rhyne next hosts Clayton State on Wednesday beginning at 7 p.m.
