The Lenoir-Rhyne University Volleyball Team (7-0) is now off to its best start in school history after winning twice on the first day of the Francis Marion Invitational Tournament Friday in Florence, S.C.? Lenoir-Rhyne defeated Francis Marion (3-0) and Erskine (3-1) as the Bears remained unbeaten on the year.
L-R downed Francis Marion by scores of 25-22, 25-20 and 25-13 and was led by freshman setter Meredith Lutz (Newton, N.C.), who finished with 28 assists.? Senior outside hitter Jordan Ledford (Newton, N.C.) added a team-high eight kills in the victory as well.
In the nightcap against Erskine (23-25, 25-8, 25-18 and 25-17), Lutz dished out 46 assists, freshman outside hitter Katelin Wensley (Advance, N.C.) finished with 14 kills and sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Cantu (Orlando, Fla.) tallied a double-double, 10 kills and 14 digs.
On Saturday, Lenoir-Rhyne takes on Charleston (9:00 a.m.) and UNC Pembroke (5:00 p.m.) on the final day of the tournament.
