No. 23 Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Handles Tusculum, 75-60

Hickory, N.C. ? The No. 23 Lenoir-Rhyne Women?s Basketball Team (9-3, 2-0) took care of its home court on Saturday night by knocking off SAC-foe Tusculum College (7-4, 1-1), 75-60, to remain unbeaten in league play.? Senior point guard Jami Safrit (Hickory, N.C.) led the Bears with 12 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds, just missing a triple-double in the process.

L-R?s Cameron Sealey (Gastonia, N.C.) led all scorers as she put up 16 points in the victory.? The Bears had four players in double figures as senior Denise Moore (Newport News, Va.) added 11 points and Amber Holt (Charlotte, N.C.) chipped in 10.

Tusculum scored the first bucket of the game to grab a 2-0 lead just 45 seconds into the contest but that would be the Pioneers only lead of the evening.? L-R went on a 17-7 run over the next seven minutes to take a 17-9 lead at the 12:46 mark of the first half.

Senior forward Kristen Fulmer (Bradenton, Fla.) knocked down a 15-foot jumper as time expired in the first frame to give the Bears a 43-26 advantage at the break.

L-R stretched its second-half lead out to a game-high 19 points at 67-48 when Sealey hit two free throws with 7:08 remaining.?

Tusculum battled back to cut the margin to only 11 at 68-57 with 3:48 to play as center Catherine Hintz (Hastings, Minn.) finished a layup but L-R ended the game with a 7-3 run to seal the victory.

Tusculum was led by guard Kendal Baxter (Sevierville, Tenn.) and Hintz who each scored 11 points despite the loss.? Hintz added eight rebounds for the Pioneers.

L-R continues South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday as it heads to Brevard, N.C., to take on Brevard College at 6:00 p.m.? Tusculum will return home on Wednesday to face Lincoln Memorial at 6:00 p.m.
