Tusculum Men's Basketball Rolls To A 74-47 Win Over Lenoir-Rhyne

Hickory, N.C. ? The Tusculum College Men?s Basketball Team (6-6, 1-1) won easily over Lenoir-Rhyne University (3-9, 1-1), 74-47, Saturday evening in a South Atlantic Conference contest at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.? The Bears lost for just the fourth time in their last 40 league regular season home games.

Tusculum?s Kyle Moore (Gainesville, Fla.) and Wes Taylor (Oregon, Ohio) combined for 43 points as the Pioneers won for the second straight year on the road against the Bears.

Moore, a preseason All-American, led all scorers with 22 points while Taylor came off the bench to register a double-double with 21 points and a game-high 11 rebounds in the victory.

Junior forward D.J. Blackmon (Albemarle, N.C.) was the lone player to score in double figures for the Bears as he finished with 15 points to go along with six rebounds.? Freshman guard Alex Watkins (Charlotte, N.C.) added eight points in the setback for Lenoir-Rhyne.

Tusculum used a 14-2 run late in the first half culminated by a lay-up from Moore at the 2:03 mark which propelled the Pioneers to a 35-21 halftime advantage.? The Bears couldn?t get any closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

Jimmy Boone (Greeneville, Tenn.) added 11 points for Tusculum, who shot 56 percent (23-of-41) from the field.

L-R, meanwhile, hit just 18-of-59 field goal attempts (31 percent) including a one-for-19 performance (five percent) from three-point land.

Lenoir-Rhyne next faces Brevard in Brevard, N.C., while Tusculum returns home to take on Lincoln Memorial.? Both South Atlantic Conference contests take place on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
