Carson-Newman Men's Basketball Finishes Off Lenoir-Rhyne, 66-61

Jefferson City, Tenn. ? The Carson-Newman College Men?s Basketball Team (8-9, 3-4) held on to defeat Lenoir-Rhyne University (3-14, 1-6), 66-61, Saturday night in a South Atlantic Conference game at Holt Fieldhouse.

Jordan Dixon (Clinton, Tenn.) was one of four Carson-Newman players to score in double figures as he finished with 17 points while Cameron Sharp (Knoxville, Tenn.) added 15 points and five rebounds as the Eagles handed the Bears their sixth straight defeat.

L-R sophomore guard Jon Hathcock (Concord, N.C.) tallied a career-high 15 points and junior forward D.J. Blackmon (Albemarle, N.C.) added 15 points as well despite the setback.

The contest was close, with 10 ties and 10 lead changes, but Carson-Newman finally took the lead for good late in the game.? Sharp hit the game-winning three-pointer to break a 61-all tie with 2:08 left.

Lenoir-Rhyne missed two treys which would have tied it with less than 20 seconds left before Carson-Newman finished off the scoring with a pair of free throws.

Freshman guard Spenser Sydney (Lincolnton, N.C.) added 10 points for his fourth straight double-double for the Bears.

Lenoir-Rhyne plays at Wingate on Wednesday at 8 p.m., in a league contest while Carson-Newman hosts Catawba on Wednesday at 8 p.m., as well.
