The Lenoir-Rhyne University Volleyball Team (10-11) won its second straight match with a thrilling, 3-2 victory over Lees-McRae College (16-7) Friday evening at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.? The Bears prevailed by scores of 25-14, 17-25, 25-22, 23-25 and 15-10 and snapped the Lady Bobcats? 13-match winning streak in the process.
Lenoir-Rhyne was led by junior middle blocker Chelsea Hill?s (Lexington, N.C.) team-high 13 kills while freshman setter Kaitlyn Burton (Mills River, N.C.) added 34 assists and 17 digs as the Bears rallied from an 8-3 deficit in the fifth and final set to take the win.
Sophomore outside hitter Cayla Crawley (Bryson City, N.C.) added 10 kills and nine digs for Lenoir-Rhyne, who moved to within one match of .500 on the year.
Megan Mitchell (Minden, Nev.) finished with 48 assists and 12 digs while Megan Epperson (St. John, Ind.) added a match-high 18 kills and 19 digs despite the setback for Lees-McRae.
The Lady Bobcats were also hurt by 17 service errors while the Bears finished with 18 total team blocks en route to the win.
Lenoir-Rhyne next competes against Pfeiffer (Noon) and Virginia Union (2:00 p.m.) on Saturday in Misenheimer, N.C.? Lees-McRae, meanwhile, returns home to face Lander on Saturday at 2 p.m.
