Wingate, N.C. - The Wingate University Volleyball Team (23-1, 16-0) increased its winning streak to 21 matches with a 3-0 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University (12-13, 5-11) Friday evening at Cuddy Arena in a South Atlantic Conference contest. The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-15, 25-8 and 26-24.
Wingate's Anna Hilton (Hickory, N.C.) led the way with a team-high 12 kills while Amanda Clark (Timberlake, N.C.) added 30 assists as the Bulldogs won their 62nd consecutive league match and clinched at least a share of their fifth straight conference regular season championship.
L-R junior outside hitter Brooke Christenbury (Mooresville, N.C.) finished with 13 kills and 15 digs, both team-highs, while freshman setter Kaitlyn Burton (Mills River, N.C.) tallied 26 assists in the losing effort.
Wingate, which hit .407 for the contest, also increased its record to 59-1 in its last 60 home volleyball matches.
In the current NCAA Division II Southeast Regional rankings, Wingate is first while Lenoir-Rhyne is ranked ninth.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Fayetteville State on Tuesday night beginning at 7 p.m. Wingate, meanwhile, travels to Newberry, S.C., to take on Newberry in a league contest next Friday beginning at 7 p.m.
