Tusculum Volleyball Downs Lenoir-Rhyne, 3-1

Greeneville, Tenn. - The Tusculum College Volleyball Team (14-3, 10-1) won its seventh straight match with a 3-1 win over Lenoir-Rhyne University (7-9, 4-7) Saturday afternoon in a South Atlantic Conference contest at Pioneer Arena.? Tusculum prevailed by scores of 25-21, 27-29, 25-12 and 25-22.

Tusculum's Rhayne Smitherman (Columbus, Ohio) led the way with 19 kills while Ashley Sarmiento (Dayton, Ohio) added 47 assists and 13 digs as the Pioneers swept the season series from the Bears.

Sam Underwood (Muncie, Ind.) added a double-double (14 kills and 10 digs) for the Pioneers, who remained in second place in the league standings.

Lenoir-Rhyne, which won the second set, was paced by junior outside hitter Brooke Christenbury (Mooresville, N.C.).? Christenbury set a personal mark with 19 kills to go along with 10 digs for a double-double despite the setback.

Freshman setter Kaitlyn Burton (Mills River, N.C.) added 39 assists and 10 digs while junior middle blocker Chelsea Hill (Lexington, N.C.) chipped in with 11 kills for the Bears.

Lenoir-Rhyne remains on the road Tuesday when it takes on Brevard in a league contest beginning at 7 p.m.? Tusculum hosts league-foe Mars Hill Tuesday at 7 p.m., as well.
