Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Makes It Three In A Row With A 95-73 Win Over Converse

Mars Hill, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team (3-1) won its third straight game Saturday with a 95-73 win over Converse (0-4) on the final day of the Biltmore Farms/Mars Hill Classic.? L-R junior guard Cameron Sealey (Mount Holly, N.C.) led all scorers with 29 points in the victory.

Sealey connected on 13-of-16 free throw attempts while freshman forward Whitney Brinkley (Asheville, N.C.) added 22 points and hit 10-of-11 from the charity stripe for the Bears.

In all, Lenoir-Rhyne connected on 47-of-59 free throw attempts (79 percent) and set a school single-game record for free throws made and free throw attempts.

L-R held a 58-57 advantage with 13:26 remaining before putting together a 13-2 run capped off by a jump shot by freshman forward Taylor Johnson (Lawrenceville, Ga.) for a 71-59 advantage and the Bears' lead stayed above double digits the rest of the way.

Sophomore guard Whitley Culler (Mount Airy, N.C.) chipped in with 15 points for Lenoir-Rhyne, who held Converse to just 28 percent shooting (20-of-72) for the contest.

Jasmine Simmons (Summerville, S.C.) was one of five players to score in double figures for the Valkyries, finishing with a game-high 14 points off the bench.

Lenoir-Rhyne opens South Atlantic Conference play on Tuesday when the Bears travel to Newberry, S.C., to take on Newberry beginning at 6 p.m.
