Carson-Newman Volleyball Holds On To Defeat Lenoir-Rhyne, 3-2

Hickory, N.C. - The Carson-Newman College Volleyball Team (18-9, 10-8) ended the 2010 regular season with a 3-2 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University (12-15, 5-13) in a South Atlantic Conference match Saturday afternoon at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.? The Lady Eagles prevailed by scores of 25-22, 11-25, 25-14, 16-25 and 15-12.

Carson-Newman, led by Carly Mozgai's (Greensboro, N.C.) match-high 27 kills, will next compete in the 2010 Food Lion Volleyball Tournament starting next Friday in Salisbury, N.C., while L-R's season comes to an end.

The Lady Eagles are the fourth seed and will host fifth-seeded Catawba on Friday beginning at 2:30 p.m., in the second match of the tournament.

Nikki James (Cookeville, Tenn.) added 13 kills while Lara McDonald (Salem, Va.) finished with 42 assists for Carson-Newman, which avenged a home loss to L-R earlier in the season.

Junior outside hitter Brooke Christenbury (Mooresville, N.C.) led Lenoir-Rhyne with 16 kills while freshman setter Kaitlyn Burton (Mills River, N.C.) added a double-double, 37 assists and 18 digs, but the Bears suffered their fourth straight defeat to end the season.

Junior outside hitter Lindsey Cantu (Orlando, Fla.) added 13 kills for L-R as well.
