No. 25 USC Aiken Holds On To Defeat Lenoir-Rhyne, 75-68, In Women's Basketball

Hickory, N.C. - The No. 25 USC Aiken Women's Basketball Team (11-2) ran its winning streak to six games with a 75-68 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University (4-4) Thursday afternoon at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.

Four players scored in double figures for the Pacers, including a team-high 18 points from Nakia Pinkney (Orangeburg, S.C.), en route to the win.

Junior guard Cameron Sealey (Mount Holly, N.C.) led all scorers with 24 points to go along with seven rebounds and six assists in the loss for the Bears.

L-R, despite never leading in the contest, pulled to within 47-42 on a field goal by freshman forward Joanna Whitmire (Brevard, N.C.) with 14:09 remaining but USC Aiken responded with a 15-4 run to push its advantage to 62-46 at the 7:33 mark of the second half and remained in control from there.

The Bears couldn't get within six points the rest of the way as the Pacers converted 18-of-25 free throws in the second half to keep L-R at bay.

Deandra Schirmer (Holton, Kan.) and Hannah DeGraffinreed (Raleigh, N.C.) added 14 and 13 points, respectively, for USC Aiken.

The Pacers also held a 36-26 advantage in rebounding and converted 77 percent (26-of-34) of their free throw attempts in sweeping the season series from the Bears.

Whitmire, freshman forward Whitney Brinkley (Asheville, N.C.) and sophomore forward Precious Elkins (Conyers, Ga.) each scored eight points for L-R in the losing effort.

Lenoir-Rhyne does not play again until Wednesday, December 29, when it travels to Morrow, Ga., to compete in the Heritage Bank Holiday Classic against Lander beginning at 3:30 p.m.

USC Aiken, meanwhile, is off until Monday, January 3, when it plays Georgia Southwestern in a Peach Belt Conference game in Americus, Ga., at 5:30 p.m.
