No. 2 Lander Women's Basketball Downs Lenoir-Rhyne, 83-61

Morrow, Ga. - The No. 2 Lander University Women's Basketball Team (12-0) stayed perfect on the season with an 83-61 win over Lenoir-Rhyne University (4-5) Wednesday afternoon in the 2010 Heritage Bank Holiday Classic at the Athletics and Fitness Center.? Clayton State University is the host institution.

The Lady Bearcats' Mukia Myrick (Columbus, Ga.) led all scorers with 22 points while Ciara Lyons (Augusta, Ga.) and Jasmine Judge (Augusta, Ga.) added 12 points each as Lander led by as many as 31 points (64-33) midway through the second half en route to the win.

Junior guard Cameron Sealey (Mount Holly, N.C.) led the Bears with 14 points and sophomore forward Precious Elkins (Conyers, Ga.) tallied a double-double (11 points and 10 rebounds) in the losing effort.

Lander surged to a 42-27 halftime lead before breaking the game open with a 15-2 run to start the second half capped off by a three-pointer by Myrick with 14:52 remaining for a 57-29 advantage.

Sophomore guards Whitley Culler (Mount Airy, N.C.) and Caroline Laughter (Hickory, N.C.) added 10 points each for the Bears, who shot just 37 percent (21-of-57) for the game.

L-R did hold a 52-32 advantage in rebounding but the Lady Bearcats forced the Bears into 29 turnovers in the contest.

On the final day of the tournament Thursday, Lenoir-Rhyne plays sixth-ranked Clayton State at 5:30 p.m., while Lander faces Lincoln Memorial first beginning at 3:30 p.m.
