Morrow, Ga. - The Clayton State University Women's Basketball Team (12-0) won easily over Lenoir-Rhyne University (4-6), 71-40, Thursday in the 2010 Heritage Bank Holiday Classic at the Athletics & Fitness Center.? The Lakers came into the contest ranked No. 6 in NCAA Division II.
Four players scored in double figures for Clayton State including Teshymia Tillman (High Point, N.C.), who finished with a game-high 13 points to go along with eight rebounds off the bench.
Renee Jackson (Lawrenceville, Ga.) added 11 points for Clayton State, who held L-R to a season-low in points in addition to forcing the Bears into 41 turnovers.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore forward Precious Elkins (Conyers, Ga.) tallied her second straight double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds despite a fifth straight loss by the Bears.
Clayton State was in control throughout the contest as it opened up a 43-24 lead at halftime and pushed its advantage to as many as 33 points (68-35) late in the second half.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior guard Cameron Sealey (Mount Holly, N.C.) also scored in double figures as she finished with 11 points but the Bears shot just 33 percent (15-of-45) for the game.
Lenoir-Rhyne opens the new year next Wednesday, January 5, when it takes on Anderson in a South Atlantic Conference game in Anderson, S.C.? Tip-off for the contest is set for 6 p.m.? Clayton State, meanwhile, hosts Palm Beach Atlantic Monday at 1:30 p.m.
